‘Cranking it’ in the shower every morning? I don’t remember Holden doing that in the book? That’s funny. This was my favorite segment so far, although not for that reason. I loved that you asked the cab driver if he knows where the ducks go when the pond freezes over…HA!
If you read my comment from last week, you know that I’m doing a Master’s thesis right now on Cacher. I’ve actually settled on an angle (pardon me for a moment while I pretend that you care); I’ll be doing a biographical critique from a psychoanalytic perspective.
I’ll have you know that I did work you in to my thesis proposal. The line reads: “Even as this proposal is being written, a pair of amateur filmmakers have begun releasing installments of their independent film, appropriately title Catching Salinger, documenting their “search for the elusive writer” (http://catchingsalinger.wordpress.com).
Anyway, continued good work. I hope you know that this is truly a remarkable journey for me. In researching my thesis, I’m reading a lot about Salinger, in addition to various essays on Catcher. All the while, I’m watching episodes of your film. It’s really great, and you are keeping me inspired to get my work done!
To that end, I’m off to the library to brush up on Freud’s theory and its use in literary studies. I wonder what he’d have to say about James “rubbing one off” in the shower every morning?

Good luck on your Master’s thesis! Glad we could entertain you. Don’t sit down in the shower.
